1. Village Government Natural Resources Management Strengthening & Capacity Building

This component aims at supporting and building the capacity of village government institutions to increase their ability to manage and benefit from natural resources.

The program trains the villages in several issues like participatory planning process, community health and wellness, natural resources management, human wildlife conflicts, sustainable utilization of wildlife and forests. Meetings are also aimed at determining the level of understanding of actual benefits accrued from natural resource, specifically from the RHWF Village Benefit Program as well as from other sources.

In order to align with the new Tanzanian government strategies of raising awareness of conservation as well as to halt the destruction of the environment, Village Councils set targets for all households to plant at least ten trees per year in their surroundings. Additionally, the program procured and distributed tree nursery equipment to all primary schools in the Maswa Makao area and setup tree-planting strategies with all Burko area villages. Distributed equipment includes wheelbarrows, plastic tubing, watering cans, shovels and garden rakes.
